Humanists pride themselves on being "interdisciplinary," a fact which leads them to mix their own theories with theories from experimental and quantitative disciplines. Predominantly, however, the mixing occurs uni-directionaly from the sciences into the humanities. In other words, although the effects of literary and critical theory on the sciences is practically nil, the effects of the experimental sciences on rhetoric, writing, and literature can sometimes be substantial.
